Dropout Detective Drives Student Retention Improvements at Richland Community College
InstructureCon was held in Park City, Utah, in June. The good folks who supply the Canvas learning management system hold this user conference each year. Many of the sessions of the conference are moderated by schools that speak on various topics.
In this year’s conference, Kona Jones from Richland Community College held a session on her student retention initiatives over the last year – and the result of those initiatives. After one full year of using Dropout Detective, Richland Community College reported the following statistics:
After one year of using Dropout Detective, the overall retention rate in RCC’s online student population increased from 79% to 84%.
The rate of students earning an A, B, or C increased from 72% to 77%.
All students who dropped/failed had been noted as high-risk (red) student in Dropout Detective for an average of 2.8 weeks.
